Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes, I had a really great day! I took off today and yesterday to celebrate. 1st I got my hair done before getting a celebration cookie from Crumbl. After packing up everything I went to Milwaukee and stayed at the Saint Kate's hotel, and it was everything I hoped it would be. You're given a glass of champagne at check in, and by the reception desk is different records you can take to your room to listen to. In each room is a ukulele, a paper with colored pencils, a TV with access to Netflix and Hulu, a record player, and different art pieces. (The hotel was filled with different art pieces throughout, and even had art exhibits within it. It was very neat.) The front desk sent a bottle of champagne to my room to help celebrate my birthday along with a set of affirmation cards, and a birthday cake chocolate bar. Every night they have live music in the lobby which has a bar. I sat and watched for a little while before going to a local bar a few blocks away. The bar had 60s and 70s music playing every Thursday. It wasn't great, but the bartender was really nice, and made me a tropical drink, and gave me a lemon drop shot for free. (For anyone worried. I did not drink a lot last night. Only a tiny bit. I took the bottle of champagne home with me from the hotel room. I made sure to stay super safe too, since it's Milwaukee at night.) There ended up being a drunk guy from Racine there because of course there was. 😅 He wanted to buy me a drink but I declined after having enough. I made sure to drink a whole glass of water before heading back to the hotel. It turns out @phantomplanet was doing a live show where they previewed their new music for their upcoming album and answered some questions. (Honored they would stream for my birthday 😅 Jk). I listened to the livestream and popped into the live chat at times while coloring in my new Stranger Things Coloring Book I got for my birthday. Alex from Phantom Planet reminisced about his own 30th Birthday.
Today I woke up and got breakfast at another dining area of the hotel which has cocktails and dinner at night and breakfast in the morning. I had avocado toast, and a latte while sitting in the sunshine, and watching outside the window. Checkout from the hotel wasn't until noon so I made sure to get the most out of my stay. I went back to my hotel room and listened to records I had brought along with me while playing ukulele and guitar. (Brought my guitar too.) I listened to the "Raise the Dead" record by Phantom Planet, and half of "Help" by the Beatles before it was time to go. After checking out I checked out Downtown Books, and Anthropologie. I then went to an antique mall called Antiques on Pierce which had 4 floors of antiques. It was fantastic but also intimidating with so many antiques everywhere. (There ended up being a lady from Slinger there, looking at the store too.) It was probably my favorite antique place I've been to so far! I got a mini grand piano figurine, and mini directors chair figurine. (The mini directors chair for my brother and sister-in-law).
My brother and sister-in-law watched Astro last night and today while I was gone. Astro even slept in their bed last night. 😅 But was spooked by the fact that they kidnapped him yesterday without me there. As in he did not want to get into their car. The whole thing was a wonderful experience, and felt empowering to have done alone. Sometimes you should just do things solo, if they can't be done with someone, otherwise you miss out on such cool experiences.
